North Burleigh Beach
About the Beach
North Burleigh sits at the northern foot of the Burleigh bluff, backed by Ed Hardy Park's coastal reserve rather than high-rises. Head up to Mick Schamburg Park and you'll find three lookout platforms with panoramic views along the coast. It's quieter than Surfers Paradise and less crowded than the point break just to the south.
The rips are significant. There are 6 to 8 rip channels along the beach, plus permanent rips at both ends. Lifeguards patrol 8am to 5pm, seven days a week, all year round, and they're kept busy: 344 rescues over five years. Swim on the inner sandbar, between the flags. Don't swim here unguarded.
The surf is a variable beach break that shifts with the sandbars. Winter brings the most consistent waves. Water sits around 26.7°C in summer, so no wetsuit needed.
Parking on The Esplanade fills fast on weekends. Arrive before 8am or catch public transport. The SLSC café is on-site for breakfast, and the paved Oceanway connects you to Burleigh Heads on foot.
Conditions at 6:21 pm
Strong northerly winds around 23km/h with a large 1.9m swell from the east. A mild 21°C in the air with warm 24°C in the water, and a high tide. Rainy conditions with a minimal UV index of 0.
