Burleigh Heads Beach
About the Beach
Burleigh Heads represents the Gold Coast's soul, with long, hollow right-handers that rank among Australia's best waves, while the main beach offers more approachable conditions for swimmers and beginner surfers. The point break fires on east to south-east swells, best from March through September when consistent groundswell lines wrap around the headland. Experienced surfers only at the point; it's crowded and localism runs deep.
The park is Burleigh Head National Park, and the headland rainforest walk delivers stunning ocean views and regular whale sightings during migration season from June to October. Burleigh maintains a village atmosphere despite being part of the Gold Coast. James Street's cafes and restaurants create a sophisticated yet relaxed dining scene just a few minutes walk from the sand.
Parking is extremely limited on good swell days and weekends. Arrive before 7am or park further south along the Esplanade and walk in. Access to Cannon Rock and the cliff line boulder fields at Burleigh Head National Park is strictly prohibited due to ongoing rockfall risk.
Tomorrow's Forecast
Expecting howling southerly winds around 32km/h with a pumping 2.3m swell from the south-east. Mild 20°C in the air expected with comfortable 23°C in the water, and a falling tide. Cloudy skies with a minimal UV index of 2.
