Glenelg Beach
About the Beach
Adelaide's most popular city beach is at the end of a tram line, 25 minutes from the CBD. You step off at Moseley Square and you're on the sand. The water is calm and clear, sheltered by Gulf St Vincent. The Glenelg Surf Life Saving Club patrols on weekends and public holidays from October through April. Still, rips form near the jetty and breakwalls, so stick between the flags.
The 215-metre jetty is a focal point for anglers and sunset watching. The beach faces west, and late afternoon light here is genuinely good. Next door, an amusement centre runs waterslides, a Ferris wheel and mini golf. In summer, a beach club sets up on the sand itself with a licensed bar right on the beach.
Expect crowds on summer weekends. Parking is paid and fills fast. Bottlenose dolphins turn up offshore more regularly than you'd expect. If you want a quieter day, Brighton is 4km south.
Tomorrow's Forecast
Expecting light northerly winds around 14km/h with a small 0.3m swell from the south-west. Cool 16°C in the air expected with cold 17°C in the water, and a falling tide. Cloudy skies with a minimal UV index of 0.

The tram from Adelaide CBD drops you right at Moseley Square, directly in front of the beach, about 25 minutes from the city. By car, you're roughly 10 minutes from Adelaide Airport.
