Brighton Beach
About the Beach
Brighton's got fine golden sand and shallow water brilliant for kids on calm days. But here's the thing: a summer sandbar catches you off guard with unexpected waves. The jetty's iconic, with the Arch of Remembrance war memorial standing at its shore end. Sculptures line the Esplanade, and sunsets over the Gulf are hard to beat. You're between Glenelg and Seacliff, so fewer crowds but solid facilities.
Respect the water here. Rip currents form between shore and sandbar in bigger surf. Patrols only run weekends and public holidays November to March, and jellyfish show up seasonally. You need to know what you're doing, or stick to calm days.
If you're into open water swimming, time a visit for the Brighton Jetty Classic in February. Grab coffee on Jetty Road, walk the coastal trail to Seacliff or Glenelg, check out the active dune restoration program. Dogs welcome except in hooded plover zones. You're about 25 minutes from central Adelaide by car, free parking available (gets competitive on hot days), or hop on the Glenelg tram to Brighton Rd.
