Cronulla Beach
About the Beach
Cronulla Beach sits at the end of Sydney's Cronulla train line, about 50 minutes south of the CBD in the Sutherland Shire. It's the only Sydney surf beach you can reach directly by train, and that easy access shapes everything about the place.
The beach picks up solid swells and draws a steady surfing crowd most mornings. The Alley, the main surf break, sits on the rock platform between South and North Cronulla. Weekends get busy, particularly near the station end, so head down early or walk further along the shore if you want more space.
Behind the beach you'll find a relaxed strip of cafes, takeaways and surf shops. Nothing fancy, just the kind of setup that works well for a full beach day.
One honest downside: Cronulla fills up fast on hot summer days precisely because it's so easy to get to from the city. A midweek visit is a much quieter experience.
Conditions at 5:58 am
Strong southerly winds around 23km/h with a pumping 2.8m swell from the south-east. A cold 12°C in the air with cool 19°C in the water, and a falling tide. Rainy conditions with a minimal UV index of 0.
