Bronte Beach
Live conditions and scores
Bronte Beach is a compact 250m open beach in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs, facing east into the Pacific. Waverley Council lifeguards patrol daily year-round, with parking, toilets and cafes right by the beach. Easy to get to, easy to stay at.
The water demands respect. Strong rips, including the notorious Bronte Express, and a heavy shore break can catch you off guard, and rocks plus a cave at the northern end that traps swimmers add serious risk when swell builds. Always swim between the flags and check conditions before you wade in.
At the southern end you'll find the Bronte Baths, a 38m ocean pool built into the sandstone cliffs in the 1880s, plus the Bogey Hole, a smaller natural rock pool. On calmer days, the snorkelling around the rocks is genuinely rewarding. The shore break suits bodyboarding when the waves cooperate, and there's surf on offer too. It's a popular family beach, busy on weekends but worth it.
Behind the beach, Bronte Park has BBQs, a shaded playground, and picnic tables spread across a big lawn under Norfolk pines. It's also worth lacing up for a walk. Bronte sits in a stretch of Sydney coastline well-suited to it, and Bronte sits midway along the Bondi to Coogee Coastal Walk, a 6km clifftop route passing five beaches.
