Bulli Beach
About the Beach
Head down to Bulli and you'll find 900 metres of golden sand backed by the dramatic Illawarra escarpment. The real drawcard is the 1930s ocean pool on the northern headland, a two-pool setup with a full-sized pool and shallow toddler pool sheltered from the waves. Great if you want to swim without the swell.
The open beach gets good swell and has both sand and reef breaks. Sandon Point hosts surf competitions and draws intermediate to advanced surfers. Stay between the red and yellow flags in summer when lifeguards patrol.
Beyond swimming, you've got a café right on the sand, grassed picnic area, playground, and showers. Parking's free and usually easy. The paved coastal path to Fairy Meadow is one of the most accessible scenic walks near Sydney: flat, wheelchair-friendly, and open to cyclists.
Watch for rocks around the headland and reef sections. Rips can form near the creek mouth and rocks, so respect the flags. Come weekday mornings if you want to avoid crowds.
Conditions at 2:04 pm
Clean north-easterly winds around 6km/h with a solid 1.2m swell from the east. A cool 19°C in the air with cool 20°C in the water, and a falling tide. Clear skies with a minimal UV index of 1.
