Angourie Point Beach
About the Beach
Angourie Point is serious surf territory. You're looking at arguably Australia's best right-hand point break, backed by its status as a the world's first gazetted National Surfing Reserve (2007). If you're an experienced surfer chasing consistent shape, come March through October when the swell lines up. April's the peak month.
But this isn't a swimming beach. Rocky seafloor and a boulder-lined entry make wading rough, and there's no lifeguard patrol here. For a safe swim, head to Angourie Blue and Green Pools instead, deep freshwater quarry pools just metres from the beach. Unique to this village.
The headland setting is stunning. You get views back across Yamba to the north, and headlands fade southward into Yuraygir National Park. There's a headland walk, fishing spots, and seasonal whale watching from the rocks.
Expect crowds in peak season. The local lineup is competitive, and rocks combined with strong swell mean you need solid experience.
Conditions at 4:39 pm
Howling southerly winds around 32km/h with a pumping 2.5m swell from the south-east. A mild 21°C in the air with comfortable 22°C in the water, and a falling tide. Rainy conditions with a minimal UV index of 0.
