Byron Bay Main Beach
About the Beach
Byron Bay Main Beach sweeps from the town center all the way to Cape Byron, Australia's most easterly point. It's the heart of Byron's alternative culture. Organic cafes, vibrant markets, and that iconic laid-back energy are all within easy reach of the sand.
You'll find beginner-friendly waves near town, the protected waters of Clarkes Beach for calmer sessions, and more challenging surf as you head toward the cape. Main Beach is patrolled year-round, but real hazards exist. Watch for rip currents, rocks, and the break wall.
Head down early. Morning gives you the best surf conditions of the day and your best shot at spotting dolphins. Parking is a genuine challenge during peak times, so walking or cycling in from town is the smarter move.
The Cape Byron lighthouse walk starts close by, and the hinterland rainforests are easy to reach when you want a proper break from the beach.
