St Kilda Beach
About the Beach
Head down to St Kilda Beach for a sheltered swim that suits families. The water stays calm most days, which is why it's a solid choice when you want a mellow session rather than something gnarly. You'll find everything you need: parking close by, toilets, and cafes along the foreshore for a pre or post-swim coffee.
The beach is patrolled by lifeguards, so that's reassuring when you've got kids in tow. Shallow areas are perfect for little swimmers, and there's plenty of room for a walk or fish if you fancy something other than a swim. The bay's sheltered nature means you get smooth, manageable conditions on most days.
Watch out for rips and strong winds though. The exposed conditions can whip up some chop pretty fast, especially in summer. Always check the forecast before you head in, and stay close to the lifeguards if you're not 100 per cent sure about the water. It's a solid spot, just respect the conditions and you'll be fine.
Conditions at 3:50 pm
Clean southerly winds around 5km/h with a tiny 0.1m swell from the south-west. A cold 10°C in the air with cold 13°C in the water, and a falling tide. Cloudy skies with a minimal UV index of 0.
