Brighton Beach
About the Beach
Brighton's a calm bay beach on Port Phillip Bay, perfect for a dip if you're after sheltered waters. You'll find it's patrolled and popular with families, especially on weekends. The water here is generally gentle compared to ocean beaches, making it solid for swimmers of all levels.
Head down to see the iconic Brighton Bathing Boxes. These colourful wooden huts line the beach and are total icons of Melbourne's coastline. They're heritage-protected and worth seeing up close, whether you're taking photos or just soaking in the local vibes.
You can swim, snorkel, fish, or just walk the foreshore. There's good parking, cafes nearby, and decent facilities. The beach faces west, so afternoon sun hits you well.
Watch out for rips and a sandbar that can shift things around. Rocks and reefs are there too, so check conditions before you go in. When the southwest wind picks up, the swell can get rough. Stick to patrolled areas if you're swimming.
Conditions at 11:15 am
Glassy conditions with barely a breath of northerly wind around 3km/h with a tiny 0.1m swell from the south-west. A cold 8°C in the air with cold 12°C in the water, and a rising tide. Cloudy skies with a minimal UV index of 1.
