Fraser Coast Beaches
About the Region
The Fraser Coast is the gateway to the world heritage-listed Fraser Island and its vast sandy shores. Find 1 beaches across 1 suburbs.
What Makes It Special
- •K'gari (Fraser Island) - the world's largest sand island and a genuine World Heritage wonder with rainforest growing from sand dunes
- •Hervey Bay whale watching from July to November - the most reliable humpback whale encounter in Australia, inside the bay not on the open ocean
- •Maryborough heritage town 30 minutes inland - the birthplace of P.L. Travers, author of Mary Poppins
Best Time to Visit
July to November for whale watching in Hervey Bay - August and September are the peak months with the most active whales. Avoid January and February for Fraser Island beach driving - high tides and soft sand make it dangerous and permit conditions are stricter.
