Moreton Island Beaches

About the Region

Moreton Island is a sand island in Moreton Bay with crystal-clear waters and sheltered beaches accessible only by ferry. Find 1 beaches across 1 suburbs.

What Makes It Special

  • •98% national park - one of the least developed sand islands in Australia, with desert dunes you can toboggan down
  • •Tangalooma Wrecks - 15 deliberately sunken ships forming an artificial reef you can snorkel without a boat licence
  • •Wild bottlenose dolphins visit the Tangalooma resort beach nightly to be hand-fed - one of Australia's most memorable wildlife encounters

Best Time to Visit

September to November for calm seas, warm weather, and the best snorkelling clarity. Whale watching runs June to November from the island shore. Avoid long weekends when the ferry books out and the island loses its remote feel.
