Mooloolaba Beach
About the Beach
Mooloolaba is one of the most developed beachfront strips on the Sunshine Coast. The beach faces NNE, so Point Cartwright blocks most southerly swells and keeps conditions manageable when other beaches are choppy. It's a busy spot, and it shows.
It's patrolled year-round, which is reassuring. Watch for rips near the rock groyne, and expect big crowds in peak season. Head to the Spit end if you've got young kids, where the water stays calm and shallow well out from shore.
You'll find showers, toilets, changing rooms, BBQs, parking, and cafes right on site. Dolphins are commonly seen around the Mooloolah River mouth, especially in the early morning.
Stage 2 of the foreshore revitalisation started in July 2025 and runs through 2026 into early 2027. Some beach areas are fenced off for seawall replacement, and the seawall opening has been pushed back to May 2026 due to longer-than-expected concrete curing, with 450+ piles already in place. Worth knowing before you head down.
Conditions at 8:06 am
A fresh north-westerly breeze around 16km/h with a large 1.5m swell from the east. A mild 22°C in the air with comfortable 23°C in the water, and a falling tide. Rainy conditions with a minimal UV index of 0.
