Currimundi Beach
About the Beach
Currimundi Lake drains out through a channel that shifts position with the seasons and the sand movement. Sometimes the entrance is wide open and flowing hard, other times it narrows to a trickle. Watch for strong currents near the lake mouth, and rips elsewhere along the beach.
The surf is a consistent beach break on an east-facing open beach, picking up east and east-southeast swells well. Westerly winds go offshore here, but onshore winds can kill the quality fast. You'll get lefts and rights, though conditions are hit and miss.
Kathleen McArthur Conservation Park runs along the northern shore with walking tracks through wallum heath and solid birdlife. Walk the track from Coongarra Esplanade through the conservation park and trees before you pop out onto the sand.
Beach is patrolled on weekends, school holidays, and public holidays year-round. Street parking along Coongarra Esplanade, toilets on site, no cafes. Dogs aren't allowed to cross the lake mouth between Beach Access 253 and 254.
Conditions at 9:26 am
A fresh north-westerly breeze around 16km/h with a large 1.5m swell from the east. A mild 22°C in the air with comfortable 23°C in the water, and a falling tide. Rainy conditions with a minimal UV index of 0.
