City Beach
About the Beach
City Beach sits on Perth's western shores, about 10 km from the CBD. It's a solid all-rounder that works for families, surfers, and anglers. The two groynes here are key. They create pockets of calmer water that keep young kids safe and happy. Behind the sand, the foreshore is well set up with playgrounds, BBQs, and picnic tables on grass. You'll find Clancy's Fish Bar right on the foreshore, plus Bert's surf kiosk nearby if you need a coffee or a new board.
The surf gets serious when conditions are running. Winter brings bigger swell, rips, and strong currents that'll push you around. The shorebreak's heavy and sandbars shift with every tide. Worth checking the forecast before you get in. Not for beginners.
The groynes are a fishing hotspot. You'll hook tailor, whiting, and herring off the rocks. The beach is patrolled by City of Perth SLSC on weekends and public holidays from October through March. Outside patrol season, you're on your own, so know your limits.
Tomorrow's Forecast
Expecting strong north-easterly winds around 24km/h with a small 0.4m swell from the south-west. Mild 20°C in the air expected with cool 19°C in the water, and a falling tide. Clear skies with a minimal UV index of 2.
