Coolangatta Beach
About the Beach
Coolangatta Beach faces almost due north at the southern end of the Gold Coast. That protected, north-facing aspect keeps conditions calmer than many exposed beaches along this coast, and it draws a steady mix of families, bodyboarders, and easy-going swimmers looking for a more relaxed day out.
There's more going on here than just a swim. You can snorkel around the rocks, fish from the shore, or walk the length of the beach. Surf is on the cards when conditions allow. Patrolled swimming keeps the main zones covered, and parking, toilets, and cafes are all close by.
Don't let the sheltered feel put you off guard. Heavy shorebreak, flash rips, travelling rips, rocks, and submerged objects are all live hazards here. Swim between the flags and check conditions before you head in.
Parking is available on site, making it easy to get down here. A solid choice for a calm beach day on the southern Gold Coast.
Conditions at 8:17 pm
Light westerly winds around 11km/h with a moderate 0.9m swell from the east. A cool 19°C in the air with comfortable 21°C in the water, and a falling tide. Clear skies with a minimal UV index of 0.
