Woorim Beach
About the Beach
Woorim sits on the ocean-facing east side of Bribie Island, about 75 km north of Brisbane, making it the closest surf beach to the city. Drive straight on via the Bribie Island Bridge. No ferry, no entry cost.
Moreton Island blocks most of the swell, so you'll typically get gentle shore-break waves of 0.5 to 1 metre, good for beginners and bodyboarders. At low tide the sandbar exposes and the beach widens nicely. When waves push past 1 metre, shore break and rips develop fast, so check conditions. The Bribie Island Surf Life Saving Club patrols weekends and school holidays from September to May, always swim between the flags.
Behind the beach you'll find cafés, a pub, and a fenced playground within easy walking distance. Dolphins regularly enter the surf zone, kangaroos wander down at dusk, and white-bellied sea eagles cruise overhead.
If you've got a 4WD, drive 23 km north along the beach to Fort Bribie's WWII bunkers. Parking is free but fills fast on sunny weekends, arrive early.
Conditions at 5:06 am
Strong south-westerly winds around 21km/h with a moderate 0.6m swell from the east. A cold 13°C in the air with comfortable 21°C in the water, and a falling tide. Clear skies with a minimal UV index of 0.
