Main Beach
About the Beach
Main Beach sits at Point Lookout on North Stradbroke Island. It faces east and catches the full force of Pacific swell, which makes it a solid choice for surfing and bodyboarding. Swimming is possible, but this is not a gentle stretch of water, so come with your eyes open.
The hazards are real. Strong rips and strong littoral currents make conditions challenging, and the shore break can catch you off guard. Sharks are a known presence in these waters. Stick to the patrolled area and swim between the flags. Lifesavers patrol the beach, so help is on hand if you need it.
You'll find parking, toilets, and cafes at the beach. Everything you need is close, so bringing the family here for the day is straightforward.
Fishing and walking are both popular if you'd rather stay dry. It's a wide, open stretch of coast with a laid-back Point Lookout atmosphere.
Conditions at 8:46 pm
Howling southerly winds around 32km/h with a pumping 2.2m swell from the south-east. A cool 18°C in the air with comfortable 23°C in the water, and a high tide. Clear skies with a minimal UV index of 0.
